One of the most lyrically personal tracks Naira has recorded, Japa details a period when he was bouncing between countries and homes, moving around Europe and back to Nigeria, all the time dodging various madnesses. At the time of recording, Japa was the latest Nigerian craze online; people were recording clips where they'd portray themselves in a stressy situation, shout japa, then cut and run. This was basically Naira's life.
Importantly, this was the first time Nai linked up with the producer Rexxie, a connection that led to a golden run in 2019.
The track was mixed by Jake Gordon who does a load of Skepta's stuff - he made the bass really bang on it. Rexxie was always a bit unsure of the mix, but there's no denying it sounds incredible turned up loud.
