about
Issa Goal was recorded when Olamide was in the UK- Studio Magic took a laptop to the hotel Olamide and Naira were chilling in and got the track recorded in an evening. Olammiude added the fake commentary at the start, then Naira then sent it over to Lil Kesh to add a verse.
Originally the track was meant to drop in 2018, but it leaked in Nigeria early, so had to go up December 2017. The lyric video quickly hit millions of plays, and Fader Magazine agreed to fund taking Nai out to Lagos to shoot the official video in March 2018, with Akin 'Crack Stevens' Davis directing.
This was the first time Naira had gone back to Lagos since being a kid. As you can imagine, the video shoot was a wild affair, with a gang of area boys trying to rob the crew of their kit on the first day of shooting, and the police trying to extort cash from Naira as we drive between locations, only for them to discover that we were rolling with a government sports minister.
The track ended up being used as Nigeria's official world cup song of 2018. Nigeria went out in the first round. Can't win em all.
